Diversity and inclusion are among Mason’s core values, and our actions reflect that philosophy. The Office of Community Engagement and Civic Learning (CECIL) develops strategies to help our students, faculty, and partners collaborate on positive social change in their communities.

A Vision for Students

By embedding community and civic engagement into academic and co-curricular experiences, we will equip students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to:

  • Understand themselves as agents of change.
  • Identify and disrupt racist practices.
  • Work collaboratively towards positive social change.

CECiL creates, enhances, and coordinates partnerships for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge, resources and service.

CECIL encourages anti-racist collaboration through:

  • Centralizing academic support and resources.

  • Building staff capacity.

  • Elevating the visibility of engagement at Mason and in our surrounding communities.

  • Maintaining a focus on anti-racism.
