SAIL provides what we hope is a comprehensive list of scholarly conferences relating to community engagement. These conferences are a great way to build your understanding of community based learning and engagement for both faculty, staff, students and community partners.
Coalition for Community Writing
The Coalition's array of programs and member projects help to catalyze community-based writing through research, teaching, publications, workshops and conferences, and public writing projects about, with, for, and by local, global, and online communities.
Engagement Scholarship Consortium Conference
Composed of higher education member institutions, a mix of state-public and private institutions, The Consortium Conference's goal is to work collaboratively to build strong university-community partnerships anchored in the rigor of scholarship, and designed to help build community capacity.
The IMPACT Conference is historically the largest annual conference focused on the civic engagement of college students in community service, service-learning, community-based research, advocacy and other forms of social action. Building on the rich 32-year tradition of the COOL Conference and the Idealist Campus Conference, IMPACT is the one time during the year when students, administrators, faculty, AmeriCorps members and VISTAs, and nonprofit professionals gather together to learn and share effective practices, improve personal skills and organizational strategies, discover opportunities and resources, exchange stories, be inspired and challenged to sustain our efforts.
International Association for Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IARSLCE)
The annual IARSLCE conference is a scholarly venue to disseminate new knowledge on service-learning and community engagement. The focus of presentations, symposia, and keynotes is on research incorporating a variety of theoretical methodologies and perspectives. The conference also serves as a gathering place for networking and association business meetings for members. A significant component of the conference is the mentoring of graduate students and new faculty members interested in advancing their own research agendas in this field.
National Service-Learning Conference
The mission of the National Service-Learning Conference is to bring recognition to the contributions that young people are making to change the world and to help prepare them and their adult mentors in reaching their goals. The conference does this through learning, inspiration, and connection. Both youth and adults come out of the experience with the tools and resources, ideas and inspiration, to return home to improve their practice, their schools, and their communities.
North Carolina Campus Compact’s PACE Conference
NC Campus Compact’s annual PACE Conference seeks to grow and share the practice and scholarship of engagement, with a special focus on institutions and issues in North Carolina. Plenary and breakout sessions advance the field by sharing research findings, innovative programs and partnerships, effective curricular or co-curricular models, strategies for institutional capacity building, and best practices.
VA Engage Annual Meeting
The VA Engage Network Annual Fall Meeting allows faculty and staff to convene and collaborate on community engagement initiatives across campuses. Free to attend, this day-event is held at different volunteer institutions each year, allowing participants to experience diverse campuses across the Commonwealth of Virginia.
