Director, Social Action and Integrative Learning

Patricia "Patty" Mathison has been at Mason since April 2013. She has served in the role of Associate Director and now Director for Social Action and Integrative Learning (SAIL). Within her role, she coordinates the Leadership and Community Engagement Living Learning Community. She also coordinates the Mason Service Corps program where students can earn course credit for volunteering. In addition, Patty manages the SAIL student staff, supervises the Alternative Break Coordinator in the coordination of our excellent Alternative Break Program and coordinates various service events and programs throughout the year. In addition to her administrative role, she provides instruction for three courses each semester including two sections of INTS 295: Leadership and Community Engagement as part of the Living Learning Community and INTS 294: Mason Service Corps.

Prior to her arrival at George Mason University, Patty had spent the prior nine years in Australia, Indiana, North Carolina and South Carolina where she was fortunate to work in the field of community engagement, leadership development, social justice and student support services. She is also a very proud AmeriCorps Alum of City Year Columbia in 2004-2005 where she served as a corps member for the Young Heroes program, a service-learning program for middle school youth. Patty continued her commitment to City Year the next year serving in a staff capacity as the Program and Operations Manager, solidifying her joy of working with college age students. Patty is grateful to have the opportunity to work in a field and a Center where she is surrounded by compassionate professionals and students every day. In her free time, Patty enjoys spending time with her dog, hiking, exploring and spending time with friends and family.
