DANC 418: Cuban Dance and Culture

Experience Afro-Caribbean music and dance in CUBA, its cultural epicenter. Coursework includes studio study of the vital West-African traditions of eastern Cuba and daily on-site emergence in the exciting social milieu (Salsa, Rumba, Santeria) that is uniquely Cuban. This intensive field class will take place in Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo City. The director of this program, Jim Lepore, Professor of Dance at George Mason University has long-standing professional relationships with the Cuban artists who will act as our mentors.

Trip cost is $2,495 and includes tuition, roundtrip flight Miami/Santiago, all studio classes, lodging (double occupancy), breakfast and dinner daily, all transportation in Cuba, and performance viewing. Course fee does not cover transportation to/from Miami, lunches, or overnight stay in Miami on outbound or inbound legs (if needed).

Space is limited! To reserve a spot in this course complete the appropriate forms and return to FS. A $500 non-refundable deposit can be paid either by personal check (made payable to "George Mason University") or cash to the Center for Field Studies office at 433 Enterprise Hall.
